For the conclusion to our Photography unit in Digital Design, I have compiled ten different images for my final portfolio. Five of them share the same theme, and the other five have independant themes to each. The following collections will use the techniques learned through the past weeks, and some images taken before will also be shown here again as well.
Images with Different Themes
(Theme)
Image 1: Temptation
Temptation features a mannequin hand, an apple, and chains that wrap around both it and the background. Playing off of the idea of the apple in eden, the chains represent a deal and the hand one whom has been trapped within it. Overall it has a very lit/light composition with few (but hard) shadows.
Image 2: Home
Sharp contrast emphasises the woods and house standing against the bright sky, with a long light hitting directly next to the house. A peaceful scene that uses dark colors as the primary focus, it draws the eye into the silhouettes instead of just a single subject.
Image 3: Calm
"Calm" balances a plant on a plain white background, the only other detail the shadow it casts to provide more sense of lighting. Using the method of simplicity as its primary idea, it provides a non-overly detailed or messy scene that provides a sense of relaxation when looking at it.
Image 4: Change
One of the most obvious subjects to change and time are tree leaves, having a classic representation with the changes throughout the four seasons. Here you can see a few leaves standing out against the green foliage around it, while the natural lighting and rainbow-esque flash provides an almost whimsical feel.
Image 5: Gamble of Death
An image re-used from a Drawing class reference, this focuses on the idea of the randomness of death. No-one knows when, how, or why they'll die-much like a gamble. The only certain thing about death is that it is inevitable. This image focuses mainly on composition and symbolism, also using the black background as a void-like subject, making the other subjects pop out more.
Images with Same Theme: "Hidden"
(Subject)
Image 1: Eye
An almost creepy sensation of being watched, hiddenly viewed, this eye framed by fruit shows a stalker-ish vibe to the viewer, with an eye-to-eye viewpoint. Part silhouette and part reflection, the fruit framing the hidden figure behind it focuses in on the subject, while the lowered stance/tilt and wide-open gaze leaves the viewer no sense of safety nor comfort.
Image 2: Burrow
Focuses in on a small dirt area with foliage blocking and framing the sides. Looking down into it provides a closer upper view, and it provides the sense of a hidden clearing/hold that someone is looking into.
Image 3: Purple Flower
A small, purple flower hidden within the grass zoomed close-up to feature something that would otherwise be hidden or overlooked. Upon being closely zoomed-in, there are numerous hidden plant parts that most would not notice. Beyond this, the purple contrasts nicely with the otherwise green background.
Image 4: Nook
Featuring a small hole, it follows the same idea as the burrow: an outsider looking in. The main difference however is the fact the Nook does not focus in on anything the hidden entrance, and instead shows an almost abandoned surroundings outside the hole, that almost looks like a nest. Using lighting and focus was the main ways this was created.
Image 5: Mirror
