Compositional Exercise (Photography)

For this project we had to take unedited photos following these prompts:

  • Rule of 3rds

Focal point of the image is on the left or right halves of the image.

  • Leading Lines

Lines point into a direction of the focal point.

  • Framing

Taking photo behind or around a frame to give a large foreground.

  • Simplicity

Keeping the background simple.

  • Balanced Subjects

Two focal points, one slightly larger.

  • Broken Pattern

An otherwise perfect pattern but with something off that becomes the focal.

Top left & Middle: Leading Lines

Top right: Framing

Middle left: Balanced Subjects

Middle middle: Broken Pattern

Middle right: rule of 3rds

Bottom left: simplicity

Reflection: I noticed that some of the prompts (broken pattern, leading lines, framing) were much easier than others (simplicity, rule of 3rds, balanced). However, I did enjoy all the prompts for the most part.
